Windows 8.1 for Refurb PC's

Go to solution Solved by zMeul,

not entirely sure, the OEM kitt should work: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Hi all,

I have this PC:

HP Desktop Computer 6200 Pro Intel Core i5 2400 (3.10 GHz) 8 GB DDR3 1 TB HDD Windows 8.1

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883282327

I have not used it for very much and it's only a few months old and after a recent mandatory Windows update the computer no longer boots... and of course it was before I made a recovery disk.   I can not get into any kind of recovery partition on the HDD so at this point I need to reinstall/repair the Windows 8.1 installation.  I am not sure which ISO to download, though.  The Microsoft Windows key sticker on the case says the version of Windows is "Windows 8.1 for Refurb PCs".  I have never seen that before and can find NOTHING online about what version it really is.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks zMeul!  I will give that a shot over the weekend and let you know how it goes.

Newer releases of Windows 10 allow you to just install using your Win8 key. No need to install 8 first. The Windows 10 installer is available for download at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Interesting... maybe I'll go that route
