Hi Guys,

Long time lurker and 1st time poster. Pardon if I have posted this in the wrong thread (please move as necessary). I have checked across the web for a solution to my problem, but I just can't seem to find a fix that work for my situation, and because the LTT community is so helpful, I thought I might ask here. Let me get to the point. Put simply: On my Windows 10 laptop, I can't seem to connect to my network printer, which is attached to a Windows XP box. Here is the error I get when I try to connect to the Windows XP box from my Windows 10 laptop:

A quick overview of what my home network looks like: there are 5 computers: 4 of them are running Windows 10 and 1 of them is running Windows XP. The Windows XP box is also hosting the network printer. 3 of the Windows 10 computers (except my laptop) can print to the Windows XP machine, only my laptop (also running Windows 10) doesn't seem to be able to. Usually the way we print is by accessing the Windows XP box through Network window and selecting the printer connected to this Windows XP box.

The fixes I have tried and didn't work (by googling this particular error) are the following:

  • going into regedit and going to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
    • adding in a new DWORD called AllowInsecureGuestAuth
    • putting in the Value as 1
  • going into regedit and going to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\LSA
    • adding in a new hexadecimal DWORD called LMCompatibilityLevel
    • putting in the Value as 1

What can I do to get network access as well as network printing going on in my Windows 10 laptop? If there is any other relevant information I need to provide, please let me know.

Thanks!
