Sick of WiFi, moving to GbE - Need help with specifics

Droidbot

Hey all,

I live with my parents, and as such I share a router with them. For around 6 months I've been using 300N WiFi since my room was across a corridor and I didn't want to block it with cables.

I have since switched rooms, and I finally decided I want an Ethernet setup for myself. Now, the max I am allowed to put into my room is 3 cables (1 TV, 2 Ethernet).

I was thinking of a dedicated Gigabit line to my PC, and then a separate Gigabit line into a switch hooked up to my Xbox and home server (once I get it back up of course)

Now, how much would the switch slow down the network to the Xbox and server? I'm boarding them off to a switch because I'm only gonna be Plex streaming on the Xbox and encoding/torrenting on the server.

In case this was confusing: Untitled.png.d8b1307d5e79032fbd4c0be9f70

Thanks :)

Unless you frequently hit the gigabit speed limit for anything, a single cable from your parents room to a switch in your room is more than enough, since you're rarely be using all 3 devices at full bandwidth all the time anyway.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.
