So recently my PC has been freezing randomly and everytime I press a button on mouse or key on keyboard, it makes beeping noise which comes from the speakers. I am wondering what the issue is here, Sometimes it happens when I pause the movie for 10mins and sometimes its just random. I think it can be two things, either its the RAM or the Video Card. I have the following setup:

Core i5 3570K OC to 4.2ghz

GTX 670 SLI

MSI Z77 GD55 motherboard

XFX 850W PSU

16 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro Gold 2400Mhz

Windows 10

Also I have to force restart the pc with restart button on the case since pc just freezes.

I recently upgraded my ram to Corsair Vengeance Pro that runs at 2400mhz(almost two weeks ago). I think most of the lockups occured when pc was idle for couple seconds, Can it be a bad ram? I doubt its video card since I play games all the time and I havent experienced any crashes or issues while playing games.

Any idea what might be causing this issue? Can it be the motherboard?

If you have any spare CD or a USB drive around

http://www.memtest86.com/

try that and check your memory, see what you get. If your memory checks out ok then might be video or could be motherboard.

How long do I have to run this memtest?

I think ran till test 8 or something before and it was fine.

I think that was like 30minutes back when I ran the test. I can do the test again for 2-3 hours if that is sufficient? What's funny is I leave my PC on overnight all the time and when I wake up in the morning its still running fine without crashes so I wonder if its a software problem?

Your problem could be software instead of hardware, an easy fix would be to format your windows and see... but you can try to just reseat your memory first it might just be that.

Thanks for the reply. I am wondering how reseating the memory will get rid of this issue? I am gonna pay attention when it locks up next and see if it occurs when a certain software is open.

There is  "creeping" which occurs after many cycles of power on/off (heating, cooling) causing bad contacts... another cause can be dust, creeping in the contacts by vibration sometimes, or just contacts that are not applying the contact force needed and all above is cured in most cases by removing and reinstalling the ram sticks.

Yeah 30 minutes should be fine @ 8 passes.

Sometimes RAM can flake really bad (sometimes it fails sometimes it doesnt) so if you wish this is all you but test it again and just let it run overnight when you sleep. See if you have any errors when you wake up. that's like on the extreme side tho.

other than that I don't think it's VRAM cause idk I don't think I've EVER had a video card go bad on me not that it can't happen just idk it's not common at least to me anyways :shrugs:

I think it could be software related like blueballs suggested. Keep an eye on the software you are running and go from there.

So I have been keeping an eye, Everytime I leave my pc on idle, not using mouse and keyboard. This beeping issue occurs, sometimes its when I left the video game on or sometimes a video. Once it happened when I left my PC on overnight. I will do the memory test again for an hour tonight and see if thats good. If RAM is good, it could be the video card.

Funny thing it happened exactly when I was typing this message again, Dragging the mouse will move in bits and make beep noises, after same thing with keyboard. I pressed windows key and start menu popped up, looked like windows was running fine. Now here is a thing which might help solve this issue: While this was happening I removed the mouse and keyboard and reconnected them. Once plugged back, none of them were getting the power or were being detected, I tried plugging them in different usb ports, same thing again. Do you think its my motherboard?

I have already tried reseating the ram and it did not work.

The issue is Windows 10 Update related and xbox one controller.

Uninstall this update (KB3140743) by going in control panel and then clicking on programs and view installed updates, search for that one and uninstall!

I was pretty sure its hardware related problem, thank god dont have to worry about it now.
