Radeon 7950 doesn't work properly! Help!

Hi, sorry for a bad title but basically I have a 24 inch Philips monitor that I have used on my previous computer and it has worked fine. Now I made a completly new computer with new components and all. The graphics card is a gigabyte radeon hd 7950 (Note that in my previous computer I had a Nvidia graphics card. So if that has anything to do with it..) and it has the latest recommended drivers (no beta drivers) from amd. I have in the windows configuration turned the resolution to 1920x1080 which is recommended and if you look in the catalyst control center it says 1080p not 1920x1080. But when I do this, I get like a black frame around the screen and it does not fill the entire monitor. I tried different resolutions and when I came to 1680x1050 the black frame thing was removed and the screen was streetched to fit the monitor. It was a bit zoomed in, which it is suppose to with that resolution so nothing strange but still I would like the 1920x1080 but I figured I could live it. But then I started a game (Medal of honor warfighter) and the screen went black and the monitor gave me a little sign saying something like: "Cannot display this video mode. Turn resolution to 1920x1080@60h" So this was the monitor saying this not windows 7. But I closed the game by doing alt f4 because I couldn't see anything and then the screen came back. I then turned the resolution back to 1920x1080 and that works when playing games but I still get the black frame around it. I made a reset of the screen settings and that didn't do anything. I tried a 23inch samsung monitor but still the same black frame so Im guessing there is something going on with the graphichs card or drivers or whatever.

Please help me. This is the first the building a pc on my own and it is fucked up...

Well anyway if you know anything please let me know.

Regards,

Ludwig Johnson

Hey,

I got a 7950 as well and had a similar problem when I connected it through HDMI to my friends TV. I went into the catalyst drivers and there was a setting to increase the size of the image so it would fill the whole screen at 1080p. Im not sure if it is available for monitors- it should be!. Not sure about the game though. Make sure you are running at the correct refresh rate- probably 60hz if your connected through DVI.
