I am about to join the PC gaming world after being a long time console player. For the most part I have owned Apple computers for most of my life due to my job, etc.

I am planning on purchasing the components to build my first computer within the next couple days. I am currently looking at "The End-All" (https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds).

Some Questions:

  1. Is this the best bang for your buck right now? The last time that build was updated was on January 15th. Are there any better components for the same price or less?

  2. The main game I plan on playing is Overwatch at the moment. I will also be streaming on Twitch. I assume this build is more than enough?

  3. Where is the best place to start for a PC building tutorial? Is there currently one resource known as the best? I don't think I will have any trouble assembling the computer, but I just want to make sure I am well informed and do all the research necessary. I am currently watching the NewEgg build tutorials.

I appreciate any help in advance, thanks!

if you're building your first pc with 0 parts, i recommend going skylake, because its ddr4 and you can upgrade/move your parts to your future machine
also, if you can give a budget, the community here can build you one too

For streaming? Not so sure that an I5 and 8gbs of ram will cut it.

Thanks for the i7 build! Couple questions... As I stated in my original post, I am pretty new to this. Is there any major difference between RAM brands? I notice most people have Crucial in builds. Is there a reason you chose the PowerColor videocard over the MSI?

1st Question: No, ram brand doesn´t have a major difference. It´s hard to screw up ram unless your trying to.

2nd Question: It was cheaper and still decent.

I am getting ready to purchase everything and have a few last questions. I would love to be able to purchase everything through Amazon, as I am a Prime member. Below is the list I created based off your suggestions, any chance you could make sure everything looks good, as I changed a few components due to Amazon availability? Is there any difference between the processor that you chose and the one I have listed? One is 4790k and one is 4790s.

EVGA 650 GQ 80+ GOLD, 650W ECO Mode Semi Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 5 Year Warranty 210-GQ-0650-V1

Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 Mid Tower Gaming Case CC-9011050-WW

XFX DOUBLE DISSIPATION R9 390 1015MHZ XXX OC 8GB DDR5 DISPLAYPORT HDMI DUAL DVI

Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000DM003)

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CML8GX3M2A1600C9)

Gigabyte Intel Z97 LGA 1150 Micro ATX Motherboard GA-Z97M-DS3H

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2)

Intel Core i7-4790S Processor (8M Cache, 3.2 GHz) BX80646I74790S

Am I missing anything? Thanks for all your help so far!

If your not going to get the 4790k, no point in getting a Z board. Switch it with a H97 board and change the cpu to a plain 4790, not a 4790s.

Did a bit of reading and the only difference with the K model is that it is able to be overclocked? As I don't plan on overclocking, is there any other benefit going with the K model?

Other than that, everything looks good on that list? Thanks!

No, since you don't plan on ocing, no point in going with the k model. That being said, that also means no point in getting a Z board. Get a h97 board with a 4790. Everything else is fine.
