850 Dollar build

Madsaul

A friend commissioned me to build him a computer for 850 dollars. I know he won't overclock, and he will probably max out at a 1080 display. I don't think he will do any content creation, and won't benchmark, but I still want to build something worthwhile. Is this a good starting off point?

Good parts, though I might get a cheaper case/psu and swap for an I5 4460. (that's also a pricey motherboard)

Then get a better GPU

Different PCPartPickers for different countries:

UK-----Italy----Canada-----Spain-----Germany-----Austrailia-----New Zealand-----'Murica-----France-----India

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

the PSU is a little too much and if u want high quality go for g2 evga its better

the card is good, people will recommend you 380  but 960 is a good card, OBV if u want to strech it to 970 do no stop yourself, actually i would probably recommend getting i5 4460 and a cheaper mobo and fitting in 970 to be totally honest with you.

I want to do that, but the 970 is a ways to go. I'm having trouble finding parts that will allow me to buy it.

Get an unlocked CPU so that when it becomes a bottleneck you can OC it for another year or two.

The r9 390 performs slightly better than the GTX 970. Why wouldn't OP get that instead?

well 390 will shine in resolution greater then 1080. its all up to OP prefrence really.

Nobody is saying that the 960 is a bad card, just that the 380 is better. I would agree with you on lowering costs to get a 970, but I would make it a 390 instead.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

guess so. Those cards are practically matched in performance. Only reason I put it in builds is becasue it will not become as obsolete as fast due to the 8GB of onboard VRAM.

Well you see i am in the same road BUT

god knows how the r9 will USE the 8 gb and also knowing that gtx 970 copresses 3.5 gb memory it has very well.... it all depends again... boild down to prefrence and 5-10 fps more or less depending on the game

AMD cards also do better at higher resolutions so in case it has to be crossfired for an upgrade (adding in a second card isn't unusual) to 1440 or 4k it should perform better.
