Ever since installing Avast Antivirus I have been experiencing 5-10 second longer boot times compared to Norton Internet Security. The PC seems to be running faster overall as I experienced a lot more crashes and slowdowns with Norton, but boot time is significantly longer with Avast. Is there anything I can do to make my PC boot up faster? Maybe there's a setting in Avast that can be changed.

It seems you have answered your own question partly. You can also go into msconfig (Just type in search) or go into your bios as will offer some options aswell. I have an SSD so I haven't needed to tweak anything just yet but in those locations you will find the settings you need to optimise your computer's boot time.

thats normal. you can set the bootpriority of avast to "Delayed" somehow so it will load when ur PC is in IDLE somewhen. But then you do lack in security. you always have to do such a tradeoff

Also:

"Run" -> "Msconfig" -> "Boot" tab -> "Advanced settings" -> Core number (or something like that; got Polish language) -> set to maximum number of cores -> apply -> reset.

Would checking "maximum memory" be a good thing to do aswell?

That one better be left alone. Personally never went into that. But with all 8 "cores" (2600k) myself found somehow faster boot. This make use all possible cores (if selected) to work on boot...
