Hey guys,

Well I think I have another dead Samsung 950 Pro... SSD number two!

Got up this morning and turned the PC on, went to the loo and came back to find it in the BIOS. I saved settings and reset as it sometimes fusses about the overclock from time to time. However it went back into the BIOS again. I then went straight to storage in the BIOS to see if the SSD was being seen as it did this last time when it stopped working. No SSD to be found!

I took the SSD out and put it onto the Hyper kit card I have and tried to boot it from there. It shows there is power but the activity light does nothing.

I then plugged it back into the motherboard and went into the PCI-e lane controls where it usually says whats installed on each lane. The two 980ti's show up on lanes 1 and 2 but it shows nothing on lane three where the SSD would usually be found!

So what can I do now? I have phoned Samsung support and Ebuyer support to get a RMA started, But what else should I check as thats now two SSD's in two months... They both survived a month each in my system! I only thing that strikes me that could be off is that they both have come from Ebuyer and potentially could be a bad batch of them...

Yes, it is plausible that it is the motherboard. However it is strange that it works for a month and then dies...

The SSD was working at 2am this morning when I was using the computer.

It's completely possible that whenever you turned it on, something killed it. Whether it be a surge, the PSU or the motherboard doing it..

I could also be completely wrong.

Yeh, I get that it could be.

I have currently got the PSU plugged into a surge protector. So its either a faulty SSD, something up with 1200i or its the motherboard.

well that is weird two SSD dies in a few months

what happens if you removed one of the GPU and test the SSD on the x16 slots?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Not really an option to be honest. I have two watercooled 980ti's. I am using rigid acrylic so there is no movement...

None the less, I have a hyper kit and tried it on a seperate PC. Still nothing...

Yeh, hopefully it is! I went onto the Asus forum and loads of people are using the sabertooth and NVME drives and are having no issues...

Well, its best to see what others have got. I am a bit tunnel vision at the moment, but someone might be able to see some broader which I am not even looking at!

Snip

Just got contacted by Asus support. The guy has said that its extremely unlikely it was the motherboard as it would of also damaged the graphics cards.

He also mentioned that you cannot through the BIOS overvolt the m.2 storage lane and mentioned that it was most likely a bad batch of SSD's sent to Ebuyer...
