planning to buy 950 pro 512gb. how is the real world performance? for gaming and stuff. is there going to be any improvement?

I know that for SSD's there really isnt much of an improvement if at all in games when switching SSd's your probably going to see a big improvement it would be small

There isn't any difference in gaming.

It's way faster, you may get slightly faster load times but that also depends on your CPU/GPU for rendering/loading scenes.

all mid to high range sata ssd now are pretty much reaching the bottleneck of sata interface. It's unlikely you will see significant improvement in real usage. You can see the difference more likely in benchmarks.

If something like pci e ssd is not within your reach in this moment but still want an upgrade, you can get another 850 evo and do raid 0 (assume your current 850 evo is not very worn)

In those task you won't notice a difference but with maybe editing 4K content maybe that will help having a 950 Pro.

samsung 950 pro is m.2 sata. so isnt it using the pcie lanes speed? instead of the sata interface?

oops sorry I misread.

Then it is going to be a good upgrade in speed. You wont get any higher fps in games. But opening applications, doing file operations and possibly loading time will be much snappier. My 2 sata ssd in raid 0 already feels smoother than my friends' computer with one

The 950PRO will deal with large files a lot faster.  For regular use (Windows, internet, game textures) you will only use small files, in which case you will barely notice any difference compared to the EVO.  A hundredth of a second here and there, not more.

Still, there is a difference.  Anyone saying otherwise obviously doesn't know what he/she is talking about.  Whether or not that difference justifies the price tag is your own decision.

  • 1 month later...

The only reason to have a 950 is for bragging rights and if you transfer large files. Looks like with RAPID (which I don't use) people get 6000MB/s on EVO and PRO SSDs.
