Well the question is do you need that 1 TB drive? I know that my 1TB drive is almost full eventhough my windows installation is not even on it. With the SSHD you might have quicker boot times but you have to decide if you need more than the available 500GB.

I can probably do with 500gb , the question is, isn't 8gb too make to make a difference? I wouldn't want to waste another 500gb for 8gb if its too small to make a difference

So in a lenovo y50 I can choose between, with no price difference.

SSHD 500GB +8GB  5400rpm

OR

HDD 1000GB 5400rpm

Is the SSHD worth it over the HDD?

Get the SSHD - you won't feel the difference at the beginning, but you will gradually feel the system speed up, a bit. Before 500GB is used, just get a secondary HDD,  connect it through USB, and transfer your data to it.

Nothing to see here ;)

Well the idea behind the SSHD is to store your most used files in those 8GB so that you can access them quicker. I am not fond of this idea and find it rather useless, therefore I would go with the larger storage capacity.

You can't directly store data in the 8GB solid-state cache - As you use your PC, the programs, and data accessed the most, will store traces of itself in the cache, and will therefore load a tad faster (noticable) - a fine example is your OS.

Nothing to see here ;)

I would argue that with only 8 GB it will not make a big difference

isn't WIN10 larger than 8gb?

It doesn't store the whole damn 'Windows' folder there : only the files that are in the boot sector (the most crucial ones for booting).

Nothing to see here ;)

The 8gb part works as a cache. It dynamically changes based on what it finds you're using the most, trying to keep everything fast. In reality it won't be the same as having a dedicated SSD, but compared to having just a normal HDD you will definitely notice a big difference. If you don't need more than 500gb, the SSHD could be a good option.

I think it really depends of your use case. If it is your primary system and you have no other place to store your data, you should go with the bigger drive. If it is only your secondary system and you have something like a network attached storage for your files, then you should go with the smaller, but faster option.

I would go with the SSHD, because I have a NAS which I use with all of my devices.
