From what the message shows, there may not be any boot device. 

Maybe try re-plugging in the SATA cable going into the HDD or SSD and see if that helps. 

Also what are the specs? And you mentioned "he just got his computer back and now its not working" I am assuming he sent it in to a repair shop for whatever reason it may be. What place did he take it/send it to to get it repaired?

We actually got it to work by just replugging the SATA cable into the HDD. The real test is when we put in the gpu if we have any problems with that.
