yeah its pretty much pointless nowadays. its causing actually instabiliy (in therory at least)

but for increasing the BCLK, that can improve stability of your IMC for example.

I saw this somewhere but its difficult to find anything really informative on OCing the chipset (and yes, I mean the southbridge). How do you overclock a chipset? What is the use of it?

Why would you want to overclock your chipset? Do you mean overclocking your cpu?

This is my question. And no, I do not mean overclocking the CPU.

Here is what wikipedia says, but doesn't offer much help:

Quote

Technically any component that uses a timer (or clock) to synchronize its internal operations can be overclocked. Most efforts for computer components however focus on specific components such as processors (a.k.a. CPU), video cards, motherboard chipsets, and RAM.

Do you mean overclocking ON a chipset?  That would mean overclocking the CPU.

I don't mean overclocking on a chipset; the wikipedia article seems to imply that you can overclock the actual southbridge on the chipset itself. Is this even possible?

I don't think that's possible...

northbridge/southbridge, overlocking your BCLK is basically overclocking the chipset.

This is done to increase stability on AMD boards. The OC may need more northbridge voltage to run at it's higher CPU overclock.
