Hello there,

I am having some issues with a Toshiba Satellite C855 - it doesn't want to POST. The laptop had overheating issues (at least i thought so because when I picked it up it was quite hot) so my father decided that it needed to be cleaned (it hasn't been cleaned since it was bought 2-3 years ago and we've had the same problem with other machines in the same condition so we were sure that was the problem) and he got out the maintenance manual and cleaned it up. Before that the computer was working just fine. Afterwards it is just spinning the fans and lighting the LEDs. My father checked for unplugged cables or something and we think there are none. He has cleaned several machines so I don't think he has damaged anything.

My father says that he might have moved the BIOS battery. So I would kindly ask anyone that knows how to troubleshoot the problem to help me find a solution.

Thanks in advance!

If he intefered with the bios battery then al you need to do is re-seat it. It's a small CR2032 battery on the board somewhere. Taking it out and putting it back in will fix it if that's the issue.

However, the issue could be more severe. I would try taking it apart again and putting it back together from scratch, making sure all the cables are connected in the correct way.

Remove the battery and the AC adapter and hold down the power button for ~a minute. Try to boot if that fails try reseating the RAM.

I will do the best I can to help in any way. However I am not all knowing and realize that I can be wrong.
