So, after watching people build pc's like it's nothing and having listened to Linus repeatedly say to tighten the screws in a cross pattern, I am finally ready to build my first ever gaming pc.

However I would like to be sure that it is going to work, and that I don't have to face many challenges building it. Also I would be open to any tips you guys have.

Here's the plan (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2pGc23)

  • <CPU >Intel Core I5-6600K
  • <CPU cooler> Cryorig R1 ultimate cooler
  • <Mobo> MSI Z170A Gaming M5
  • <RAM> 2x8GB Corsair DDR4-2133
  • <Storage> Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD + 3TB Seagate Barracuda
  • <GPU> Gigabyte GTX 980 4GB Winforce 3X
  • <PSU> Corsair CX 750W
  • <Case> NZXT Noctis 450 ATX mid tower

The budget lies at a maximum of 1400 USD (excluding peripherals)

The PSU is bad , the HDD is bad and I would recommend R9 390x over the GTX 980.

I'd go with this build but get a WD hard drive over the Seagate

But the 980 is faster

Its 100 bucks more expensive, if wasnt faster I would be really surprised, just doesnt compensates.

The HDD is fine, I have one, but the PSU, not okay, just put in a EVGA/XFX/Antec PSU...

EVGA and Antec both have some sub-par units in their lineup. EVGA has some terrible ones. XFX uses Seasonic only as OEM, so they're safe, but you need to be specific with the models for brands that use a variety of quality OEM units.

True..The higher end EVGA PSUs like the Supernovas are good for his build...

Depends on the unit. The NEX (G1) series are part of the SuperNOVA line, but are not great. The B2. GQ, GS, G2, PS, P2 and T2 are the good units.
