have you installed the GPU drivers

I installed them with the included disk but I downloaded nvidia's software and it says my drivers are up to date.

well then... I can't really think of anything else that could be wrong. I'd suggest you either keep fiddling (maybe give the monitor settings a go, i doubt it will help, but it might), or try the rest of the internet.
