Honestly, there is no need for you to buy all of your peripherals in one go. This is especially true for people on a tight budget. Different peripherals also die at different paces.

  • Headphones, if you treat them well, can last almost forever. If you're buying from a reputable audio brand (Sennheiser, AKG, Audio Technica, etc), you can probably get replacement parts for most of the things that can break.
  • A chair is important and a good chair will last you anything from a few years to a decade. A chair is expensive, but it's also one of the most important things when it comes to your setup. And unlike most of the other things, having a bad chair can result in permanent physical damage.
  • A keyboard can last a very, very long time, assuming that you don't damage it with liquids. There are people who are using original mechanical keyboards that are over 20 years old and they still function perfectly. A keyboard is also fairly important if you spend a lot of time typing, as a bad keyboard can result in physical pain.
  • A mousepad is cheap and most of them will last you anything from a few months to a few years. The primary function of a mousepad is to control the feel of the movement of your mouse.
  • A mouse is most likely going to last you a few years. Generally, a comfortable mouse is important because having an uncomfortable mouse is going to make it difficult to use over extended periods of time and your performance will suffer.

I have a full set of peripherals and I bought them over a number of years. I bought my mousepad in December 2015. I got my headphones in January 2015. I got my mouse in November 2014. I got my keyboard in November 2013. Some people would say that I have spent an unreasonable amount of money on peripherals, but considering how long I've used them, I'm looking at 0.39 €/day. That doesn't even buy you a cup of coffee.

Personally, I would prioritize a chair, headphones and mouse.

I own and use, sorted from newest to oldest: SteelSeries 6Gv2. Microsoft SideWinder X4. Mionix Naos 7000. Zowie EC1 Evo. Microsoft SideWinder X8. Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Dell U2414H. Samsung P2270H. AKG K273 Pro. Sennheiser HD555. Razer Goliathus Speed Medium. Func 1030 L. Qpad CT Medium.

I used to own: Razer DeathAdder 3G. Razer Krait. IntelliMouse Optical 1.1. SteelSeries QcK.
