Power?

I bought a cheap o amp on Amazon to see if some old speakers I have work, which they do, but sometimes the amp will cut in and out when I crank the bass up too high, when I unplug every thING else besides the woofers the same thing occurs, only it takes more to make them stop. The amp says between 12v and 18v input, I have 12, would an 18 blow my stuff up or fix my problem?

Probably doesn't depend on the voltage, but on the current. How many amperes can your adapter handle? For a normal 12-18V amp I'd get something with at least a 3A capability
