Lepa PSU issue

I recently built my brother a new computer. It's running a 7850, one HDD, and an i3 processor (can't remember the model name of the top of my head but it's an ivy bridge. Anyways the PSU is 500watts, which I think is plenty for the stuff he's running. First off the computer makes a horrifying screeching noise whenever he does anything intensive such as run games. I think i've narrowed the sound to the PSU but I can't be sure. Second, the computer crashes after a few minutes of doing intensive stuff like running sleeping dogs or the like. I know it's not the GPU as it ran fine in my rig, I just can't be sure that it's the PSU yet. Any input would be great before I dump cash on a corsair builder series. Thanks!
