[Question] Thunderbolt eGPU

Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

It's quite rare (mine's from Sweden), but in fact it does. It has the sticker by the port, and also says so on the box: "USB 3.0 + TBT 1". I forgot to mention that, my bad. :)

fair enough. regardless it's not guaranteed to work with an e-gpu, and aside from that it's not something I'd recommend doing.

For the power supply, this should do: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ssp350st

I'd like to put together an Asus STRIX GTX 960 eGPU for my G46VW, using a ThunderTek PX PCIe chassis - based on ha1o2surfer's one (link in the end). I can't really figure out what PSU to buy - since I'm going to build the whole thing from scratch. The card I'm planning to use has a TDP of 120W and it takes one 6 pin connector. The 4x to 16x powered riser needs a molex, and that's pretty much it. I would make the PSU run by 'hotwiring' the motherboard connector's green line.

My question is: do I need to think of anything else, would this even work? And could you guys maybe suggest a PSU for my scenario in the price range of $50 to $150?

You may want to consider the fact that your laptop doesn't have a thunderbolt port.

btw @T_Hastings welcome to the forum, please follow your topics ;)

Yea, its pretty hard to connect to thunderbolt when you dont have thunderbolt. Trust me, i've tried.

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!
