USB HUB with Peripherals

Hey guys, 

This might be a dumb question but I have a lot of USB powered peripherals and I'm starting to run on of ports from my desktop. Would I be able to run my peripherals off of a connection to a USB hub or are they strictly for file transfers ? Also any other suggestions ?

They would work fine, just make sure to get a good quality one so i doesn't fail/retoot after power hogging of the USB hub.

Try and get a high quality USB hub, if you do. The cheaper ones don't regulate power as efficiently, and definitely don't protect the individual hubs from interference.

some USB hubs come with a 5v power adapter that you plug into the wall, for extra power for devices, as to not burn out the port on your computer. I would recommend one of those if you are plugging high-power devices into the hub.
