HDD Wiping

So a couple of days ago,  I found that my hard drive in my PC is almost completely full. I have a spare drive that I can use as a backup, but it is not exactly empty. This other hard drive was the original in my PC before I upgraded it, so it has a copy of windows and other things on it. I would like to wipe the hard drive to use as a secondary, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I've seen forums saying that you need to install X program on a disk and boot from it, but I have no writable CDs. Is there an alternative such as maybe using a USB key?

Depends, do you want to back up the OS or just the files? Wiping it is easy, just hook it to one of the sata ports in your computer and format it.

You can use a flash drive with a windows OS and boot from there. You can then format the drive there by deleting the partitions and formatting the drive.
