Can Someone Explain GlobalNames Zone?

I've never heard of this before, but a quick read of some articles suggests it's a way to create short aliases to use in place of FQDNs - of course it would only work for the devices set to use that DNS server/cluster for lookups.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:
