New Graphics Card Black Screening

EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0

240GB Intel 730 Series SSD

Windows 8.1 Pro

 

So over the holidays I bought a EVGA GTX 980 as an upgrade for my system. Everything was fine the first few days but, while playing games it will turn my monitor the color of what ever I am looking at in game then go black. The monitor stays powered the whole time and then returns to normal in a few seconds and I am able to play again. I did have one instance where the fans on everything spun up to 100% for about 1 second then went back to normal. So if anyone has any idea how to fix this please let me know.
