My HD6790 gpu temp keeps rising over time

angrypig7

Just as the title.

I got this HD 6790 refurbished a couple of months ago and it was fine back then. The max temp would stay at about 72C when overclocked with 25% fan speed.

And about 2 weeks ago, I changed the thermal paste. The original paste was dried up and also applied too much that it was all over the capacitors near the GPU.

And the max temp would be at around 68C after changing the paste. But the max temps would go up as time passes and now, it stays at about 82C now.

BTW, maybe I applied the thermal paste a little too much for the size of this tiny GPU. Maybe that's the problem?

Any advice / suggestions?

Maybe your cooler is too lose. Screw that tighter after reapplying thermal paste if you're left with nothing else to do

To repeat myself, once again: performance isn't the only thing that matters to many people.

Well, it's a Gelid GC-Extreme so it shouldn't be a problem.....
