I am looking to buy a laptop and think I have found a laptop that would offer me the most for the least amount of money, but second opinions never hurt. The laptop in question is the Acer Aspire V 15 (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-572G-76EM-15-6-Inch-Platinum/dp/B00R45U20W)

I would be doing a bit of gaming on it and possibly some video editing. I was reading that the hard drive is a bit slow, so I was thinking of replacing it with a hybrid drive. Would that be worth it? The hybrid drive I am looking at is this one

Acer Nitro series tend to overheat since the heatsinks are fairly small and the vents are also tiny.

This is MUCH better

I had looked at that one. It was a little pricier than I would like, and I would still need a different drive because I think I would need more than the 256GB

the Y50 has a 500-1000GB SSHD.

In any case, the Acer is awful for gaming and even worse for heavy CPU workloads. It WILL overheat badly.

Ok I had seen that but its used and I'm not really interested in buying used

Noticed. You can find a new one for around 800$ either from Lenovo or Newegg/Amazon. Definitely better than the Acer. When I tax CPU + GPU I get CPU temps of about 85-87*C whereas the Acer goes to 95-97*C

$800 is a bit more than I would have liked to spend. I'm shooting for around $700, but would consider going to $750. $800 is just a bit too much.

Aim for a deal or a sale. You should be looking at good cooling above all else since that's the deciding factor whether a laptop will melt within a few months or live a long happy life

If gaming is a priority, @don_svetlio is right, getting something that is going to last is priority. I've seen way too many gaming laptops cook themselves to death. Save the money and look for a deal. CES is right around the corner, so Lenovo is likely to have sales to clear stock of existing models.

Asus have pretty terrible customer support, a guy here bought their RoG GL552 series laptop, had it break in 2 months. He sent it to them and it's so far been 60 days without even a word on what's going on. Avoid them.

That one in particular has crappy cooling with a single-fan design which results in a steady increase of temps until it starts throttling at around 95*C

Ok, I'm leaning towards that Dell then I suppose.
