How to determine if processor is fried?

I recently had some water damage done on my PC, and it was a major ordeal.

Had to swap the MOBO and PSU in order to get things posting.

Issue is, I got a CHEAP MOBO to see if my old i7 3770k worked after everything.

Upon installing the processor into the cheap micro ATX MOBO, it booted and tried to get into Windows 10 off my SSD.

But it freezes before Windows can exit the splash screen.

Is this a sign of a BIOS incompatibility of the board (Certified Windows 8 compatible on the box) or that the processor is dead?

I was going to proceed and purchase a new ATX board and another i7, but don't want to do this if only the board is the problem.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try booting windows in safe mode, the old drivers could be conflicting your your new board, causing windows to crash.

Now I'm getting a Windows error that says "Inacessable Boot Device" then it resets. When it tries to open Automatic Repair, it freezes and stays like that.

Yeah it's not booting into Safe Mode when I hit F8. It either freezes on start up, or blue screens, resets, and freezes on "Preparing Automatic Repair"

I would try using another installation of windows(like install it on a new HDD with your hopefully not dead machine) or create a linux live boot dvd(or flash drive) and see if it has any problems.

It seems to acknowledge the i7 3770k in the BIOS. Does that mean it's not fried? The board is pretty outdated, so a BIOS update might be what it needs, but I don't have a spare USB off hand tbh

Might go get one at Walmart. The main thing I want to determine is if the processor works.

Would only a successful boot let me know this?

Well, damaged processors can still work partially(for instance, I have a FX-6100 is only stable with module 2 disabled). Only way to tell if a CPU is damaged is by running benchmarks, tests, etc. and looking for slowdowns, crashes, or errors. A successful boot is a good start, but really the only way to know is to properly test it(since even a unstable CPU can boot Windows).
