fan speed control software

Go to solution Solved by Daveeede,

Take a look at the fan pinouts from your mobo's manual (this is what I have attached).

The 4-pin CHA_FAN1 can only control the speed of PWM fans since the fan speed control is on the 4th pin (Same for the 4-pin CPU_FAN1 connector, which is normal since most CPU fans/heatsinks are PWM).

As for the 3-pin PWR_FAN1, which I assume is the one you're referring to, it will push a constant +12V to the fan, meaning it will run at full speed, and no software will allow you to control it.

These are issues commonly seen with budget boards (happened to myself actually). What I'm not understanding is why you're not able to see the speed of the fan plugged to the 3-pin connector...

EDIT: This question gets asked a lot and there aren't many resources on it. If I get the time, I might make a small guide to help people understand the fan pinouts and how they differ from one motherboard to another.

is there any software to control fan speed?

it doesn't work via my motherboard, if i set them to silent mode they are still at 100%

i have 2 fans, 120mm which isn't a problem since i can barely hear it, but the 200mm is like an aeroplane...

it seems mobo doesn't recognize them

it says: Chasis fan speed: N/A

Wait you cant change them in your bios? That sounds messed up.

Its dumb but worth asking are the fans connected to the mother board?

Thats not good. You can see them running but you cant control them. Have you turned off all of your fans or is it limited to the airplane turbine?

Is ASRock B85M-HDS your current motherbaord? Could be the pinouts on the mobo that don't support fan control.

well fans aren't necesary on my case, i have open case, but one fan atop of everything is nice, i want it to run about 40/50% not 100

Is your bios set to the correct type of fans you have like DC/PWM

um.. i can't find that option

yes it is

it's 3pin

I'd recommend getting a fan controller so that you can manually adjust the speeds. They usually cost between 10-30$, unless you want a fancy pants one with touchscreen, sd card reader and built-in toaster oven.

i have one at home actually, had it in old case (NZXT setry2)

it just felt ridicilous to have a fan controller for 1 fan :)

i wanted to sell it with old case, but i guess i'll use it then
