I am trying to reinstall Windows 10 (upgraded from 8) on a laptop with a broken screen hooked up to my TV via hdmi but it only displays on the TV after the OS has booted so I do not know how far the install is or if it is asking for a new username and password. It is a 15-n262ez

This is because the PC sees the TV as a secondary monitor so it will not display anything to it. You can actually unplug the laptop display from the motherboard and that should force it to use the TV only.

ALSO: if you can tell me the model of laptop you have I can try and find a guide for you to do that.

When in doubt, re-format.

I have cut off the cables to the monitor and when removing it but I don't see if it will detect the difference between cutting off the cables and unplugging it

LOL, I like your crude methods. I would try unplugging it, as maybe in the cutting process you may have shorted something.

Another thing that I have noticed with win10 is that it's really finnicky about what screen it will display the whole boot cycle on. I have a monitor set up using DP as my primary and the secondary is DVI. Even though they are set up properly, win10 will NOT show my booting info on the one using DP, even if i unplug the other one.

When in doubt, re-format.
