Gaming Headset Help Please!

Hey, so I am going to buy myself a new headset, but I do not know what to get. I commonly use Skype, and I would like it to be 7.1 and preferably leather ear cups that go over ear. I would be willing to go up to 300 dollars.

with that budget, it is better for you to get a headphone instead of a headset, and get a dedicated mic instead (yes, like the one you saw in studios). because well..... headset doesn't really sounds that good compared to "at-the-same-price-point-headphone" because they spend it more on the mic too.... and please stay away from "gaming" thingy, 7.1 is also run by software*(you can get Razer Synapse if you want to use 7.1 anyways).

which are on $300+ club, and you can go with a better headphone and just by an AT2020 USB, and you're doing good ._.

I think you are much better off buying a quality pair of headphones like others have suggested. You could then buy an aftermarket microphone like the Antlion modmic or a blue snowball that would perform much better than the microphones found on gaming headsets. 

 

But, in case you're dead set on a 7.1 all in one solution. The hyper x cloud 2 is about the only 7.1 gaming headset I'd really recommend.

Heck, the ATH-ADG1 was a direct response from Audio Technica for people who bought their headphones and used a Zalman clipon mic. Linus also says that it's the best gaming headset he's heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps6cLom8mC4

 

And really, a modmic is designed for someone who has really, really expensive headphones. And considering that it costs like 50$, I kind of doubt that you'll easily find something with superior audio quality compared to the ATH-AG1. And let's say you do buy a modmic for 50$. You're now looking at 200$+ headphones, plenty of which will benefit from an amp. And now your total is going to be 400-600$ instead.
