So my school gave me an old server that they used before they upgraded. They formatted the two HDDS, so it has no OS. The only problem is I cannot install an OS. Every time I try I get an error of sorts, and when I try to install Windows Server 2003 it cannot find a bunch of files. I even tried installing Linux Ubuntu server, no luck. I am not the greatest when it comes to servers, so try use basic terms. I will answer any questions needed.

PS, Sorry I have given limited information, not sure what it needed so just ask and I will provide.

Welcome to the forums!

@WatsOnTV What is the server?

I ask this because certain servers you cannot put an OS straight onto it and you need some sort of provisioning software to load on the OS. If I know the model of the server I can get you a link.

CPU: i5 4670k @ 3.4GHz + Corsair H100i      GPU: Gigabyte GTX 680 SOC (+215 Core|+162 Mem)     SSD: Kingston V300 240GB (OS)      Headset: Logitech G930

Case: Cosair Vengance C70 (white)                RAM: 16GB TeamGroup Elite Black DDR3 1600MHz       HDD: 1TB WD Blue                              Mouse: Logitech G602

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium                       PSUXFX Core Edition 750w                                                Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45               Keyboard: Logitech G510

The server is an HP ProLiant ML310. Unsure if any upgrades have been applied, as I said it is an old school server.

Ahhh yeah. HP servers need "provisioning software". However, there will be a generation number. Such as "Gen 1, Gen2" and so on. What Gen is the server?

Just had a look at the case, and I cannot find a gen1, gen2 etc. The model number is ML310T01, if this is helpful.

Yeah, you need to use Smart Start 5.5 (I don't think the later ones will work such as Smart Start 7.5 or above). I cannot find a download of 5.5 but I have an ISO if you want me to upload to dropbox/media fire. Up to you, you might want to look for a download before downloading from a guy on the internet.

I cannot find a download link either, so I think I will have to trust your ISO.

If you need any help using it, just reply.

It is straight forward, put it on USB/CD. Boot from it and select Install OS (or something like that). Then it will prepare things and after a while ask you to put OS CD in. Good luck!
