Budget Server/Workstation AMD viable option?

I was thinking everyone likes Intel because of higher single core performance etc. but with servers and workstations (as in rendering videos and rendering 3D scenes) would an FX Series CPU be pretty viable?

I was planning on hosting a gaming server/Rendering rig.

I'm guessing the extra "PileDriver Cores" would actually be pretty viable option.

Not a problem, there is a lot of old server components that are still pretty relevant today that are quite cheap. Might as well make use of them.
