Planned Home Server Build

Hey all,

Been a while since I've posted something but I would like some advice with a home server that I'm planning to build.

It will be mainly used as a Plex Media Server, but I want to use it as a central backup for my network.

As it stands now there is only one HDD due to financial constraints, but will add more as time goes on

I have a few questions;

1) What OS should I use? (Am currently leaning towards Ubuntu Server)

2) Is there anyway I can improve?

I am aware that PCCaseGear may not be the cheapest supplier but are the only Australian PC part store that I consider trustworthy so am willing to pay the premium for reliable service.

Appreciate any and all opinions.

Cheers

Why is it horrible? WD Reds are good for servers are they not? How much RAM would I need? I thought 4GB would be ample

Do you need a SSD for that?

Im not sure, main reasoning was to keep the OS off of the storage drives, is that not worth it?

Updated build with seagate drive and removed the SSD, would you recommend 8GB RAM?
