Hello Guys im close to buying my new Gaming PC for around 1000 Euros.

The question is whether i can use my old HDD's from a prebuilt computer.

The specs of the drives are:

2x 1TB 7200RPM Samsung something drive.

I would also use a 250GB SSD in the new System thats why i was wondering if i need to buy new hard drives.

Just in case you need the System specs:

CPU       i5 4460
GPU      r9 390 Nitro (sapphire)
PSU      corsair CX (600W) semi modular
MOBO  SLI Krait Z97S

CASE   s349 special razer edition

RAM    16 GB HyperX fury 1866MHz

SSD     Samsung EVO 850 (250GB's)

So my questions are:

1. Do i need to buy new ones because the old ones will not work in the system properly ?

2. Should i clear the HDD (making it empty again) for the new PC ?

3. If 1 HDD  dies will my system still run (i'll obviously install the OS on the SSD)

Yea thats basicly it. I asked because i didnt feel like buying a new HDD because im currently only using about 350GB's and if i install the main things on the SSD's i dont mind the longer waiting times

if they work

hope you guys can help me out

1. No you do not. If they are SATS (they should be) they will work just dine

2. If it has the OS on it then yes i would do that. That will keep the system from getting confused. If its just a storage drive, it is not necessary but your choice.

3. If you run the OS on the SSD and the HDD dies, the system will run fine. Install the necessary programs to do your work on the SSD (for speed if nothing else) and you will be fine!

You can use your old HDD if you want to keep the files. But if you want a completely new build with a new HDD then you can go and buy a new one.

You got a motehrboard that supports a overclocking but have a non-overclockable CPU. I would get the Intel Core i5 4690K because it's perfect for gaming. the PSU is also good because you actually don't need more than that.
