Brother bought a older i7 2ndgen series laptop, put an SSD in there, acts just as responsive as my modern i5+SSD desktop does.

$800 new, few years old, bought for $175.

There are deals out there to be had. Just do the research on the parts and see if its powerful enough for your needs.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Work computer, are you gonna do heavy tasks on it or just something that is fast to do spread sheets on?

The best would be to make a laptop that is tailored for your specific needs.

OriginPC has their EON15-X and their EON15-X Pro that you can customize almost anything.

And the best thing is that they have desktop processors in them so they will be really fast when editing and rendering.

Nothing too heavy, but I don't want it to die on me when I do try a heavy task.

From my research, when the specs go up I eventually hit exactly what I want but it has some 970 in it that I don't need. Just looking for the best laptop with a 960 in it at most, and if it has a 960 the rest of the specs should be enough for me.
