Internet Bottleneck?

SteadfastWhiplash

I was wondering if anybody has advice for a TimeWarner network connection 50Mbps down and 5Mbps up that bottlenecks to about 500Kbps whenever playing a multiplayer game like CS:GO. I have no idea why this is.

Have you thought of using a VPN?

Could be throttling the speed if the network sees the traffic as a non-priority usage, does it happen at all times, or just peak times/weekends?

As Yames said, VPN is the way forward all the network will see is VPN traffic.

Surely, it is a LAN issue?

Just installed VyperVPN Pro and nothing has changed while in a game. Everything else is much smoother though (as far as I can tell).

It's odd that it would only throttle during gaming.
Do you perhaps have a Killer NIC? If you do, uninstall the software and re install JUST the drive.

When you say bottleneck, do you mean other devices connected on the network only get half a mb?

Or just the bandwidth allocated to CS:GO?

And I am assuming that this is happening when you are gaming only?

Surely, it is a LAN issue?

Actually my motherboard does have killer ethernet. I don't understand what you mean by "just the drive".

This is only happening when I'm gaming. I cannot test other devices on the network but I don't think that's the case. This is the main PC hooked up through ethernet.

I meant driver :P

Uninstall the killer program, and then manually install just the driver for the NIC.

I just downloaded the standard drivers and this is what I got. A system file, a security catalog, and a setup information. What do I do with those? (Can't remember how to post pictures.) :(

Are you streaming when playing?

If this is not affecting the other network devices, can I ask again what the actual issue is?

If you have a 50/5meg connection it should not be an issue.

When I play CS:GO it uses between 300-600 kbps last time I checked (might have had has something running in the backround as well so take that with a pinch of salt)

I have a 32/2meg connection and I am fine and have no issues currently.

Surely, it is a LAN issue?
