Question Thread

Gnrl Kitty

I don't know much about networking so I have a question.

I'm looking at buying a router for my home.  I currently have a standard business class modem/router from Comcast (my ISP).  Do I need to replace my Comcast modem/router with something else before I can use a router?

No, it should be plug and play.

... You plug the ethernet cable into the Modem and the other end into the Router, then you turn on the Router, and it should configure itself accordingly.

Then you connect another ethernet cord to the router, or connect to it via Wifi (if it has it).

Simple as that.

I don't know if it will auto configure itself..

You will need to plug your new router into your old modem/router and then configure the old modem router to either NAT (not recommended) or bridge connection between the two. Essentially turning your old modem/router into a modem only.
