Windows and Linux dual boot problems

Go to solution Solved by Rystall,

I used to dual boot windows and ubuntu and ran into the same problem. When you installed Elementary OS, you replaced Window's boot loader with the Linux one, which is called gub. Grub keeps files on the linux partition, so when you formatted it, it no longer has those files, hence the grub rescue command line. The guide below walks you through replacing grub with the windows boot loader.

EDIT: Step one says to "Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 media in the DVD drive, and then start the computer."

You need to insert your Windows 7 installation CD, and boot from it.

Pressing one of the F keys, commonly F10, will allow you to select a boot device, if it doesn't do it automatically. You have to push it on the motherboard screen, if you see the grub rescue screen, restart your computer and try again.

Hello every one,

I am studying computer programming and I was told multiple times that I should learn how to use Linux but I ran into multiple problems, because I am new to this, and need help.

Firstly I have two HDDs one of them has my windows 7 installation and all my data and is in MBR. The second one is on GPT and completely empty. I chose Elementary OS and tried installing it on the empty disk. This went well but when I tried booting win7 it didn't do anything. I tried formatting the Linux drive and now when try to boot it up it gives me "grub rescue" and a command line. My motherboard is gigabyte b75m-d3hh and I haven't updated anything.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me/point me to aguide to fix my win 7 and eventually install Linux.

Thanks in advance
