Hello,

I'm going to college next year and will be studying networking/IT systems and possible 3d design/CAD modeling. So, I need a new PC because my laptop simply won't suffice. My budget is around $500 USD, I'm allowing wiggle room because I also need a mouse and keyboard. I've listed the guts of my planned build below (with case, optical disk drive, mouse, and other parts it comes to $530 usd). I'm not a major gamer but I do like to play gtaV. I'll be using windows 7/10(I also use linux with no unfair bias) but I'm not including it in the budget. Suggestions?

MoBo-> Gigabyte FM2+/FM2 AMD A78

APU-> A10-6800k 4.1GHz quadcore (Radeon HD integrated)

Gpu-> r7 240 2gb

1 Tb sata II HDD

2x 8Gb ram

2x 1Gb

750 watt psu

You don't need a 750W psu for that kind of build anyway, and what do you mean by RAM to dedicate to the GPU?

If you're taking what I bolded, you are going to need an an SSD.  Trust me, I'm taking that program right now.  The recommended requirements for my program include a quad core that supports virtual machines, 16GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.  And boy do you need the SSD.

He is talking about RAM for the APU. I don't think he knows that it shares system memory. You don't need separate RAM for it.

i7 4790k | GTX 970 | 16GB

That's all you need to know. It's a beast.

My power need was around 500 watt, I've read that a 40-60% overage is ideal. Plus if I upgrade I'll most likely need more power. Also, I've heard negative things about i5 compared to similarly priced amd processors. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll look into that site. 550 usd is my max including mouse and keyboard.

what have you heard? an i5 will absolutely wreck an AMD chip in single core performance. Amds cpus have a 32nm process thats pretty outdated.

The i5 is better on CPU side than any APU, the reason A10s reach that price is because they've a nice iGPU

Yeah unfortunately.  And my program requires these specs in a laptop.  The one sold at the bookstore is the cheapest one and it's a G751JT from Asus.

i5s are better no matter what you are doing, but i guess fx-6300 isn't horrible... amd is like taking 2010 technology and then giving steroids imo. i don't see a point

I was referring to the FX-8000 series. But, from other discussions I've heard that it depends on the purpose of the PC. Such as for gaming (multi thread) and 3D modeling such as Autodesk, the FX would be better...weaker cores, but more cores that add up to be more powerful.
