What do you think it's better, front-end or back-end programming? I'm currently studying (or learning however) C# in school, It's good going, you know. It wouldn't be hard for me to learn HTML (I know a lot already), CSS and JS (Also I have experience there, for me it's pretty similar C#)... So tell me what do you think it's better. Also I haven't been working so much in Photoshop but I think it wouldn't be too hard to learn basic things...

Photoshop is just a generally nice tool to be able to control.

Definitely no bias from me there, and my like... $8,000 workstation rig for adobe suite, and opencl calculations

Neither. It all depends on which you prefer doing. My preference doesn't really help you much.

I would recommend learning a bit of both. Focus more on one as you develop your preference, but I wouldn't completely neglect the other in case you need/want to work solo.

It's really up to you however be aware in many jobs you will at least be expected to be comfortable with both.

Personally I prefer back-end because that is where you will normally find the more advanced parts of the system and a bigger challenge than on the front-end.

Being able to "do it all" can open up a lot of opportunities for you.

There is no "best" in this case since it's really all about what you enjoy.

I personally hate doing front-end work but that doesn't mean I haven't shipped quite a few functional UIs.

If you like to play around with the "look and feel" of things, you'll enjoy working in the front end.

If you prefer the stuff behind the scenes and getting into the meat and potatoes of code, then back-end is where you'll find comfort.

Either way, try to know enough to do both should you ever be called upon to be a one man band.

I think I have pretty good logic, I like potatoes and meat :D Ok, can you tell me one more thing, when we say front-end there is three basic things (HTML, CSS and JS), what about back-end? What do I need to know, what is best language? Do I need to learn MySQL (I suppose, because of databases and etc.)

when we say front-end there is three basic things (HTML, CSS and JS)

That's the essentials. You might also be dealing with some extra stuff on top of them.

  • Foundation, Bootstrap, etc
  • SASS, LESS, etc
  • jQuery
  • React, Angular, etc
  • CoffeeScript, Dart, Elm, etc
  • etc

what about back-end? What do I need to know, what is best language?

There are multiple options for a server side language and there is no best language. Two options that wouldn't require you to learn a new language would be Node.js (JavaScript) and ASP.NET MVC (C#). Python, Ruby, and PHP are some more popular choices.

Do I need to learn MySQL (I suppose, because of databases and etc.)

You should learn SQL, but you don't necessarily need to use MySQL as your database. There are multiple options available.

If you wanna do web development, frontend or backend you gotta atleast know and understand HTML5, CSS and Javascript they are a requirement in web development if you are better at creating images and artwork i would consider front end development if you are better at doing mathematics and problem solving i would consider doing backend development :-)

Know if you are making desktop or mobile applications your gonna have to learn both fields, plus a few programming languages like C#, C++ and Apples C coaco i believe its called?
