Dell Battery compatibility

I'm trying to find out about getting a new battery for an inspiron 3542. The type is a XCMRD 14.8 volts. On the dell website, the battery costs over a 100 dollars but I found this site that sells it for 40 dollars but it doesn't mention compatibility for my specific computer. Is there a catch? Will it work?

If it has the same type of format and layout it will work as long as the voltages are the same and the Wh (watt hour) is the same or higher than the original. Only thing is sometimes those third party batteries might not use very high quality Li-ion or Li-po cells in them.

You can install a higher Wh (watt hour)  or mAh (miliamp hour) which is the size or capacity of the battery.

 

To covert the Wh to mAh:

mAh= Wh/voltage*1000

 

The unit with the 40Wh is somewhere around 2700mAh.
