this is my current system http://pcpartpicker.com/p/krhrkL what would be best upgraded route

CPU first since you're on a Z97 chipset and can use that OCing ability on a higher-end processor like the 4690K or 4790K.

I would also double up on the RAM as 8 GB is a minimum for modern systems as of now and a new GPU (such as a 380 or 390 from AMD) may suffice.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

I'd say it depends on what you want to do. For example if you wanted to play the latest and greatest AAA titles in like 2K or even 4K then you should look to get another NVidia graphics card and run them in SLI. Or if you were planning to do multi-threaded work you could upgrade to an Intel Core i7 with hyper threading so you can take advantage of that. It ultimately comes down to what you wanna do.

I strongly disagree. The i5-4440 should last for years.

I would upgrade the GPU in the future.

I just think that he should take advantage over the OCing potential of his MOBO first.

Can you actually specify what you want to do with the system later on down the track? Right now the build is looking pretty stable

DISREGARD THIS!

Doesn't make sense to upgrade the processor already. You won't see much of a performance benefit in-game compared to upgrading the GPU.

That CPU is fairly weak and would bottleneck a GPU powerful enough to push 1440p @ 60 Hz.

Gaming is the main purpose, saw a deal on a r9 290 for 270$ i have a semi tight budget and saw stock cooler 290 for 199$ at 1440p

It would be able to handle two 980tis with minor bottlenecks on single threaded gameplay.

"Minor"

You do realize that the GPU is meant to be at around 100% load when the CPU is at 60-80% while gaming, right? What games are you playing, OP?

I've worked with systems that have i5-4460s and two Titan Xs in them (Don't ask why). No problems at all. The only difference between is 4690K, and  4440 is clock speed. (overclocking obviously)

would this be best upgraded route can spend around 300 every month on upgrades http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yDFhQ7

And clockspeeds are pretty much everything when dealing with i5' s. The difference between 3.3 GHz and 4.2 GHz while gaming is massive, especially when dealing with CPU intensive games like GTA V and CS:GO.

Yes. Your CPU won't bottleneck your GPU in this case. But I would definitely invest in a more powerful CPU for next month.

CS:GO is hardly intensive. GTA V is another story. If he was purchasing two 980tis for 4K gaming I would suggest a CPU upgrade, but he isn't. AMDs benefit from higher clock speeds as their cores are weaker. Only CPU bound games will see slight FPS improvements (5 - 8FPS)
