I bought my kid GTA5 from GreenManGaming, and the code was redeemed on http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/activate.

I want to buy it for myself so I can play with him when my parts get here in a few days, but currently the lowest price is on Steam ($40).

I don't care where I buy it, but I don't know how the servers and shit works. He doesn't launch the game from Steam... would I still be able to connect and play with him if that's how I open it on my computer?

I realize this is probably a dumb-ass question... but I feel like I need to be 100% sure for the sake of forty bucks.

i think steam is the only way to get GTA on PC, so just find the cheapest steam code for it.

Erm, no. You can buy it for, and play it through Rockstar Social Club.
