Hi!

I've been having inconsistent speeds and ping over a wireless network from my computer, and I'm looking for the best way to resolve it.

My router is downstairs, and there is no way I can connect it directly with a cable.  I do however have an ethernet plug in my wall, but i don't know what i can do with it.

I asked a few technicians from my ISP, and they told me that I could get a wireless extender, and my friend told me to use a powerline cable.

What is the best way to do this?

Do you know where the ethernet jack in the wall terminates at the other end? If it's near the router, you should be able to use patch leads to just connect one end to your router and the other to your PC.

Best option is running cables, then powerline (though it can vary in quality, depending on the wiring in your house), then a wireless extender. The issue with extenders is that they reduce bandwidth when you connect to them, so they tend to be a fair bit slower than powerline and hardwire.
