Question about upgrading memory

Go to solution Solved by conspiravision,

I wasn't aware you could mix and match. I can use 2 8gb sticks and 2 4 gb sticks at the same time?

yes as long as it is the same type of ram , so if you have DDR3 1600 ram you'd have to have 2 8G sticks of DDR3 1600 ram.

So i currently have 8 gb or ram. (2 x 4gb). I am trying to upgrade to 16gb. So question is would it be better to buy 2 more identical 4gb sticks (filling all 4 slots with 4gb sticks) or buy 2 new 8gb sticks.( only fulling 2/4 slots)

This is your choice. I would personally go for 4x4GB but if you want to have further future expandability then the 2x8GB is a better option, but then you would have the 8GB lying around - which could be handy if you want to do something else with it.

Sig under construction.
