Bad ram?

Go to solution Solved by DolphinOps,

well then the problem is simple enough. you have a dead stick of ram. unfortunately there is basically nothing you can do about that, you'll just have to buy some new ram.

Hello, I have a problem with one of the RAM modules maybe it's dead but I wanted to ask. First my PC in quite old now it's been 5-6 years since I bought it.

Specs:

MB: MS G31TM-P21

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz

RAM: 2GB  DDR2 800 x1

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT240

PSU: 500W (changed 1 time)

So I wanted to upgrade at least my RAM because I found it hard to use with only 2 gigs. One of my friends recently upgraded his PC and he gave me his old RAM which is the same as mine but the manufacturer, his is from A-data mine is Apacer, but both are 800. I used it for 2 months and i didn't had any problems. So the A-data module is not working at the moment, so I'm asking if I did something wrong using 2 different manufactures or did it just died. If there's something I can do to try and fix it I would appreciate it a lot because my PC kinda lags with 2 gigs of ram. If you need pictures of both modules and the information on them i can do that just ask me. I've have never overclocked anything in my PC.

PS: Few days before this problem I got 2 blue screens saying something about memory.

i would recommend running windows memory diagnostics to test your ram for errors. in general it is concidered a bad idea to use mixed memory but it can work.

here is a link to how to do that http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/diagnosing-memory-problems-on-your-computer. if it turns back any errors then remove the new memory and try again.

My pc won't start if I install that module

PS: I get 3 beeps which for my motherboard manufacturer, 3 beeps is the error for "base 64k memory failure - bad memory"

Well yeah ddr2 are not that expensive, and should I now try and find one from the same manufacturer now ? maybe that's why my old one died ?

that would be recomended. although the bad ram was probably on its way out beforehand
