What does RAM directly affects? (such as programs and preformance wise) Would 4gb on a surface tablet or laptop be enough?

It affects how many programs you can have open at the same time without slowdowns as well as general system performance if it's below a certain amount. At the moment I consider 8gb to be the minimum and ideal if you're spending more than 350$ and less than 1200$. Beyond 1200$ I'd demand 16gb.

 

So in my opinion, a device with the surface's price should have at least 8gb to be worth buying.

I'm pretty sure if you open the Surface up, you can replace the RAM. Don't count me on that.

Yeah, but if you do a shit ton of browsing with a ton of tabs open/memory intensive programs....

yeah, it's just that I wouldn't pay that much for a device with 4gb of ram. For 2 programs you'd be fine with an asus t100ta
