So my mate has asked me to install him a ssd for his old as the hill hp PC ( i3 2220u or somat)

Is there a way for me to copy is version of windows 7 as he has no disk off his other hard drive ?

you could mirror the drive with a software like acronis

Often, the SSD manufacturer will provide a software (if not in the package, then on their web page) that will allow you to clone the contents of one drive to their SSD.  Failing that, there are a number of software packages available that will allow you to clone the existing HDD to the SSD (Acronis True Image having been mentioned, Macrium Reflect being another).
