Hey Guys,

I'm looking to purchase GTA5 for a friend, Its cheaper to purchase from SEA Region which is my intention, I am aware of the new steam policy regarding the use of VPNs to activate region locked games, but its fine as my friend will be in the SEA Region to redeem GTA5. I'm just curious as to weather after the game being redeemed in the SEA region, will you be able to play it in countries out of that region? Pretty sure it should be fine but I'm just double checking  :D

Thanks In Advance

I don't think so. Steam identifies where the selected game's region is locked to (if any), checks your IP address' region then launches if it corresponds to the selected region.

With older titles you got by with just VPN when purchasing/installing. But current way has active online check for region. Like said, it uses IP/ISP to check legibility. You can play, but you will need to run VPN whole time. And if Valve catches you, well I think they freeze account or just take game away without refund.
