Laptop Performing Slowly

So the battery on my Asus laptop was shot. The laptop on mains charge was running very slowly, I have purchased a new battery and the laptop is still agonizingly slow. It has a fairly fresh install of Windows 7, an Intel i3 processor and 4gb of RAM. 

 

Any help with this problem will be appreciated. :)

First make sure if it is your HDD and run CrystalDiskMark on it or something.

If it comes out with a sequence write and read of at least 100 MBi/s defraged your HDD. 
If this doesn't help, look at the S.M.A.R.T. Data from the HDD (How to here: http://www.howtogeek.com/134735/how-to-see-if-your-hard-drive-is-dying/)

If everything indicates that it isn't the HDD give us an update
